Privacy Policy

Last updated 28 July 2026

The short version. We do not sell your data. We do not share it with anyone for their own purposes. We do not run ads, we do not track you around the internet, and we do not look at where your stands are.

Deer Diary is built by two hunters who wanted a better way to plan and understand their own ground. That is the whole business.

Who we are

Deer Diary is a small independent hunting-planning tool operated from Missouri, United States. You can reach us any time at [email protected].

What we collect

Your account

What you put into the app

This is the part that matters most, and we want to be precise about it:

We understand that where your stands are is sensitive information. We treat it that way.

Technical information

Our hosting provider records standard server logs — IP address, browser type, pages requested — for security and to keep the service running. We do not use analytics services, advertising pixels, or cross-site trackers of any kind.

Payment information

If you subscribe, your card details go directly to Stripe and never touch our systems. We receive only your subscription status and when it renews. We could not see your card number if we wanted to.

Who can see your data

Other people

Only the people you personally invite to a property. Nobody else — not other users, not the public, not anyone who happens to find the site.

Anyone you invite as a member can see and edit everything on that property. Remove them and their access ends immediately.

Us

We have technical administrative access to the database, the way anyone running a service does. We do not browse it, and we do not look at your stand locations, photos or notes. We would only access your specific records if you asked us to for support, or if we were legally compelled to.

Service providers

We want to be straight with you here rather than claim something impossible. Running a web app means a handful of companies necessarily handle data on our behalf. Each one is contractually limited to processing it only for us. None of them may use it for their own purposes, and none of them are sold or given your information.

WhoWhat they handle
SupabaseDatabase, authentication and photo storage — where your camp's records live
CloudflareServes the website and protects it from attack
StripePayments, if you subscribe. They hold card details; we do not
Open-MeteoWeather history and forecasts. We send coordinates and a date; they receive nothing about you
Esri, USGSMap imagery. Standard map tile requests, the same as any mapping site

That is the complete list. If it ever changes, we will update this page and say so.

What we never do

How long we keep things

Your data stays as long as your account exists, because a hunting log is only valuable if it goes back years. Cancelling a subscription does not delete anything — you keep full access to what you have already recorded.

Delete your account and we remove your properties, stands, logs, deer records and photos within thirty days. Backups roll off within ninety. Ask us at [email protected] and we will do it.

Getting your data out

Settings → Export backup downloads everything you have — properties, stands, deer, every logged sit, photos and settings — as a single file, any time you like. No request, no waiting, no charge. It is your record of your ground and you should always be able to walk away with it.

Your rights

Wherever you live, you can ask us to:

Email [email protected]. We will not ask why. If you are in California, the EU or the UK, you have these rights under law; we extend them to everyone regardless.

Security

Everything travels over encrypted connections. Data is separated at the database level so one account cannot reach another's records even if something else goes wrong. Photos are stored privately and served through links that expire. Passwords are hashed by our authentication provider and are not recoverable by us.

No system is perfect, and we will not pretend otherwise. If something happens that affects your data, we will tell you promptly and plainly.

Children

Deer Diary is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their information. If a child has created an account, contact us and we will remove it.

Changes

If we change this policy we will update the date at the top. If a change is significant — particularly anything touching who can see your data — we will email you before it takes effect.
